The Lahti Region has many faces already due to its location. The centre of the region, City of Lahti, is the northernmost part of the Helsinki metropolitan area, located on the southern side of the region just one hour from Helsinki.

Lahti is a combination of lively culture, events, nature and lakes. The lakes spread from Lahti to make the whole Lake District of Finland. Therefore, when you travel North from Lahti, either by land or water, you'll reach a totally different world surounded by lakes and pure nature. Accordingly, the Lahti Region offers besides urban life, also relaxing experiences from cottage holiday to inland cruises and wellness.

Lahti – Gate to Finnish Lake District

In the winter Lahti is full of ski games atmosphere as the the world cup events, such as Lahti Ski Games, arrive in town. Music and culture events enrich the event calendar year round. Events take place for example in Sibelius Hall, theatre, market square, harbour and all over the town. When traveling up North from Helsinki, Lahti is the first inland harbour, where you'll get access to the big lakes of Finland. From Lahti you can cruise even up to Jyväksylä or Heinola through two picturesque canals.

The pure nature, lakes and the four fitness and wellness professionals The Sport Institute of Finland in Vierumäki, Messilä Snow Centre, Pajulahti Sports Institute and Hotel Tallukka form together an invincible combination for an athletic holiday. Golf, down-hill skiing, ball games and wellness services only one hour from Helsinki.

Heinola – Mecca of Fitness

Heinola is the home Sport Institute of Finland. The Institute, situated in Vierumäki in southern Heinola, provides you with a wide variety of sports and fitness guided by professional instructors. In Vierumäki you can find also two 18-hole golf courses, several restaurants and a wide selection of accommodation from cottages to high class Golf Resort accommodation. Downtown Heinola offers fun for history and art lovers. The Empire-style Heinola Town Museum familiarises you with for example old Finnish glasswork. WPK-talo, i.e. the Voluntary Fire Brigade Building, houses Gallery Lambert which organises various exhibitions in summer. You can also immerse yourself in the old town milieu in the house and garden of the Chief Constable Aschan.

Hollola – History and Winter Sports

In Hollola Church village, just 15 minutes from downtown Lahti, one can find a lot of history and interesting stories. The most wellknown sight is the beautiful Hollola Medieval Church. Near the church, you'll also find the bell-tower dating from 1830s and the Town Hall, completed in 1902, which exemplifies the National Romantic style. In Hollola you can find also Messilä holiday centre, which consists of the biggest downhill ski centre in southern Finland, as well as a manor house hotel, golf course and camping site.

Asikkala is Known for Vääksy Canal

Vääksy Canal, which connects Lakes Päijänne and Vesijärvi, is one of the busiest inland canals in Europe. There's a lot to see by the canal, including the Vääksy Mill, one of the few village mills still operating, the Watermill Museum and Majakkapaviljonki Restaurant. The Neo-Renaissance style Danielson-Kalmari Villa in Vääksy brings art and music close to visitors in its Värähtelyä (Vibrations) event in summer. Taidevintti of the Asikkala Artist Association exhibits works of various artists. Päijännetalo in Vääksy is a fishing and nature centre where visitors can familiarise themselves with the history of the surrounding nature and fishing sites. Take the opportunity to book a fishing or hiking trip.

Padasjoki – Pearl of Lake Päijänne

The northernmost part of Lahti Region , Padasjoki, is situated by Lake Päijänne, the second biggest lake in Finland, only 45 minutes from Lahti. The Padasjoki Harbour is a popular base for yachtsmen on southern Päijänne. From the harbour departs lake cruises to for example Päijänne National Park and Kelvenne Ridge Island, which is renown for it nature molded by the Ice Age, and its charming lagoon-like sandy beaches. You can reach Kelvenne also by canoe, which you can rent from Mainiemi Harbour.
