The Hämeenlinna and Lahti regions

Hämeenlinnan ja Lahden seutu

Region

Only one hour's drive from the Helsinki area, the Hämeenlinna and Lahti regions feature historical value, as well as versatile offerings of culture, sports and well-being.

Hämeenlinna region

The Hämeenlinna region is a diverse, welcoming destination for all visitors, whether they are interested in culture, events, sports, history, contemporary life, shopping or nature. The best known attractions in the area are Häme Castle, Iittala Glass Centre, the Puuhamaa family theme park, the birthplace of composer Sibelius, Verkatehdas Arts and Congress Centre, numerous museums and, of course, the unique Aulanko forest and park area.

See local nature at its most typical at the Evo hiking area, feel the history in medieval churches and pamper yourself at the spa. Accommodation alternatives include castles, manors, hotels or country houses, and local restaurants serve varying seasonal delicacies.

Lahti region

The Lahti region has many faces, starting from its location. The centre of the region is the city of Lahti, which is the northernmost point of the Helsinki Metropolitan area, only one hour's drive from the Helsinki city centre. The city is an interesting combination of culture and events, on the one hand, and lakeside nature, on the other. The Finnish Lakeland starts here.

Lahti offers something interesting to see all year round: skiing world cup events, the Sibelius Festival by Sinfonia Lahti, the Sibelius Hall with diverse cultural events, the wood architecture park, the Sport Institute of Finland, the Pajulahti Sport Centre and Ski Centre Messilä.
