Tastes of Finland
Tastes of Finland is a walking tour of the main sights in the centre of Helsinki that includes tips for buying souvenirs. Along the way participants can taste Finnish cuisine and hear stories that are bound to interest culinary tourists.
The stories focus on the history of Helsinki's restaurant culture and gastronomy.
Participants get to experience the local gastronomy and culinarism at small establishments and boutiques offering both organic and local food. These include a bakery, chocolate shop and farmers' market, as well as several shops specialising in, for example, kitchen textiles and food utensils.
The tour ends with a meal at either of the restaurants Lasipalatsi or Flada13, as decided by the participants themselves. Lasipalatsi serves salmon on a bed of salad and seasonal tastes, such as reindeer, lingonberries, mushrooms or even pike-perch à la Mannerheim. The restaurant also serves its own homemade bread. Flada13 serves a three-course seasonal menu, including a meat, fish or vegetarian main dish. Alternatively, participants can select a plate of 5 seasonal dishes.Tastes of Finland is a walking tour of the main sights in the centre of Helsinki.
